# CDQ Partner Guard - How to monitor Business Partner overlaps? ## Overview **Use Case** Organizations often maintain large Business Partner data storages that may overlap with records available in multiple reference data sources (e.g. country registers, commercial providers). Over time, changes to Business Partner attributes such as name or address may lead to new or different matches in those reference sources. The Overlap Monitor in CDQ Data Clinic helps identify and continuously track such overlaps. It performs Business Partner lookups across selected reference data sources and stores the matching results. Whenever a Business Partner record in the data storage is modified, the lookup is automatically re-executed and the overlap information is updated accordingly. This allows customers to: * Detect potential duplicates or overlaps across the activated reference data sources * Automatically re-evaluate Business Partner records whenever their attributes change * Surface the latest overlap insights through ready-to-download Overlap Reports Thanks to this continuous loop, the Overlap Monitor keeps full transparency on potential duplicates and overlapping records across the Business Partner landscape. **Learning Goals** In this tutorial, you will learn how to: * Understand what the Overlap Monitor is and when to use it * Activate Overlap monitoring for a Data Mirror * Generate and download an Overlap Report ## Step 1: Understand the Overlap Monitor The Overlap Monitor is a monitoring capability within Data Clinic that runs Business Partner lookups for records stored in a data storage (e.g. Data Mirror) and checks for overlaps in selected reference data sources. For each Business Partner record: - A lookup is performed in the configured reference data sources - Matching results are stored as overlap information - When the Business Partner record is changed (e.g. name or address update), the lookup is executed again - Updated overlap results are stored automatically The Overlap Monitor works as part of the Augmentation monitoring mechanism and extends it with a dedicated Overlap scope. ## Step 2: Activate Overlap Monitoring ### Option 1: Create a new Data Monitor with Overlap scope To activate Overlap monitoring for a Data Mirror: 1. Go to Data Clinic. 2. Click **Add New Data Monitor**. 3. Select **Monitor Type**: `Augmentation`. 4. Choose the appropriate Augmentation Configuration. 5. In the **Select a Scope** section, enable **Overlap**. 6. Click **Create New Data Monitor**. The Overlap scope can be selected together with other scopes, depending on your monitoring needs. | | | --- | | ![](/assets/pg-monitor-pr-overlaps-img001.06a00e140977f3930b40cc17cf56aeaa0a739749acd013bc58c101b7bfab4d11.0e46f5c4.png) | ### Option 2: Update an existing Augmentation Monitor If you already have an Augmentation Monitor configured: 1. Open the existing Augmentation Monitor. 2. Edit its configuration. 3. In **Select a Scope**, enable **Overlap**. 4. Save the changes. Once saved, overlap checks will be activated for the associated data storage. ## Step 3: Generate and download an Overlap Report After Overlap monitoring is enabled and overlap data has been collected, you can generate a report: 1. Go to the **Reports** tab in Data Clinic. 2. Click **Generate New Report**. 3. From the **Report Type** drop-down list, select `Overlap Report`. 4. Generate the report. 5. Download the report once processing is completed. The **Overlap Report** provides an overview of detected overlaps between Business Partner records in your data storage and the configured reference data sources. | | | --- | | ![](/assets/pg-monitor-pr-overlaps-img002.e5f224242e0c39dc0f5be19728a1a632e7a5f2bd5de5e3899312d46c26be3bb2.0e46f5c4.png) | ## Your opinion matters!
