Overview

This instruction explains how to activate and configure the GOOGLEPLACES reference data source in CDQ so that it can be used for Business Partner enrichment and validation.

Google currently provides two versions of the Places API: Places API (Legacy) and Places API (New). CDQ supports only the Places API (New). The legacy version is not supported and must not be used.

To enable the GOOGLEPLACES data source, you must first activate the Places API (New) in the Google Cloud Console and connect it with an API key. The same API key must then be configured in CDQ.

Learning goals

In this instruction, you will learn how to:

  • enable the Places API (New) in your Google Cloud project.
  • configure an API key for the API.
  • configure the same API key in CDQ Reference Data Source Management.
  • use the GOOGLEPLACES data source in CDQ services.

Step 1. Create or Select a Google Cloud Project

  1. Open the Google Cloud Console.
  2. Create a new project or select an existing project that will be used for the Google Places integration.

This project will host the API configuration and the API key used by CDQ.

Step 2. Enable Places API (New)

  1. In the Google Cloud Console, go to APIs & Services.
  2. Click Library.
  3. Search for Places API (New).
  4. Open the API page and click Enable.

Make sure that you enable Places API (New). The older Places API (Legacy) is not supported by CDQ.

Step 3. Create an API Key

  1. In Google Cloud Console, navigate to APIs & Services → Credentials.
  2. Click Create Credentials.
  3. Select API Key.
  4. Copy the generated API key.

(Optional but recommended: restrict the API key to Places API (New) for security reasons.)

Step 4. Configure the API Key in CDQ

  1. Log in to the CDQ platform.

  2. Navigate to:

Global Settings → Reference Data Source Management

  3. Locate the GOOGLEPLACES data source.

  4. Open the configuration settings for this data source.

  5. Enter the API key created in the Google Cloud Console.

  6. Save the configuration.

The API key configured here must be the same key that is connected to Places API (New) in your Google Cloud project.

Step 5. Activate the Data Source

After saving the API key, activate the GOOGLEPLACES data source in CDQ.

Once activated, CDQ will be able to access Google Places data using the configured API key.
